Samsung just revealed the 4K 240Hz Odyssey Neo G8 curved gaming monitor

Samsung has revealed the newest in its line-up of premium gaming monitors, the Odyssey Neo G8. It was announced on the company website alongside a slew of other brand new products. But, really, it’s the monitor that’s the star of the show here. Samsung is doing a lot of really cool things with the Odyssey Neo G8, particularly for next-generation gaming.

Samsung has been developing monitors like this for a while now. The company’s previous displays like the Odyssey G7 and G9 are both similarly curved gaming monitors. The Odyssey G9 in particular is a standout for its curved, ultrawide design. The Neo G8 seems more constrained in comparison, but a quick look at the specs tells another story.

Samsung’s not pulling any punches

Alright, so the first thing to bring up here is that it’s indeed a 4K display. This is impressive because it’s a mini LED monitor that also runs at a 240 Hz refresh rate. This is the first time we’ve seen a monitor like this, and it’s going to need a beefy graphics card to make the most of it. If you managed to get a powerful graphics card last year, even that might not be quite enough.

The other details for the monitor mention that it’ll measure at 32 inches. It’s a good size for a monitor like this, especially if you can’t fit the 49-inch behemoth Odyssey G9 on your desk. It’ll also have the 1000R curve that both the G7 and G9 also have. There will be two HDMI 2.1 ports and a DisplayPort 1.4 output as well, which is to be expected these days. There also seems to be RGB lighting located on the back of the monitor, just like the G9. After all, if it doesn’t have RGB lighting, it’s not really a gaming monitor. Aesthetically speaking, the body of the display will be colored white with black accents located on the bezel and the stand. This is very much the same styling that the Odyssey G9 had as well. Unfortunately, if you were hoping for a black monitor this time around, you’ll need to keep wishing.

The price point for the display isn’t known yet, but you can expect it to be fairly expensive. There’s a lot of bleeding edge stuff going on here, and that usually means high price points. But, if you’re in the mood to check out some other monitors, you can check out a list of some of the best right here.
