At current, Yacht Club Games’ Mina the Hollower is only a day away from the end of its Kickstarter campaign. The adorable Zelda-like from the Shovel Knight creators already grabbed my attention. However, after yesterday’s announcement, now it has my ear. The famous video game composer, Yuzo Koshiro, is helping out with the soundtrack for Mina the Hollower. He’s only composing two tracks, but that doesn’t mean I won’t have them on repeat for hours.
For those who don’t recognize the name, Koshiro belongs to the old guard of video game music. Koshiro began back in the ’80s, where he composed music for the Ys franchise. His work got popular back in the 16-bit era, where he composed music for games like the Streets of Rage trilogy and The Revenge of Shinobi. He also helped compose the excellent Shenmue soundtrack later on, and provided a few tracks for Streets of Rage 4. Koshiro has been around, and soon he’ll provide some songs for Mine the Hollower. As a fan of his work, I am frankly thrilled.
Mina the Hollower itself is looking impressive so far. An homage to both Castlevania and The Legend of Zelda, Mina looks and sounds like game that could easily come out on the Game Boy. Of course, that is Yacht Club’s MO. It’s previous game, Hollow Knight, invoked memories of gaming back on the NES. It was received very well, sporting bright and colorful graphics along with a soundtrack that’ll get stuck in your head for ages. With Koshiro involved, the soundtrack for Mina the Hollower may become just as noteworthy.
Turn it up
Mina the Hollower is still far from being finished, but its Kickstarter campaign is just about over. From the goal of $311,503 USD, it’s managed to pull in more than $1.1 million USD. That’s not too surprising considering how well received Yacht Club’s games have been. Currently, the completed backer goals include cheat codes, a new game plus, a port for Mac and Linux, and a fishing minigame. Wow, a lot of games just love having players fish.
