As promised, Activision and Infinity Ward have unleashed the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 worldwide reveal trailer. There’s not much gameplay to be had, but does reintroduce us to Task Force 141. The trailer splices in snippets of cutscenes, with some potential gameplay, all to the tune of a remix of Metallica’s “Wherever I May Roam.” It’s about as “summer blockbuster” as you can get, with explosions and falling helicopters to seal the deal.
Task Force 141 returns in Modern Warfare 2. Led by Captain Price, the team also includes John “Soap” McTavish, Simon “Ghost” Riley (who’s pretty much the face of the game), and newcomer Colonel Alejandro Vargas. You get to see all of them in the worldwide reveal trailer, which reiterates the release date of Modern Warfare 2 for October 28.
There are some rare glimpses of gameplay, but don’t expect anything too surprising. One unfortunate enemy soldier is pulled from a dock into the water in what’s clearly a stealth attack. There’s also your typical “raining down hellfire from above,” and I’m 99% sure the video is hinting at such a segment. Those are just about always expected in CoD games.
Roaming along
Beyond that, the worldwide reveal is your typical Call of Duty 2 fare. We see the team inching their way over grassy plains and through hallways. A firefight erupts on a large cargo ship rocked by a torrential storm. Explosions rock enemy forces, and we even get a shot of a tank brigade. This is Call of Duty, all right. A potential super weapon also gets teased, suggesting what the plot may be about. Overall, though, it looks about as loud and bombastic as you’d expect from CoD, so fans will no doubt be pleased.
The trailer mostly revolves around the events of the campaign. It’s likely we’ll get some footage of the multiplayer as well as Warzone 2.0 in the near future. The summer of games is just beginning, and I doubt Activision will let it pass by without sharing more.
